Repairs and use of tools
Barrhaven Tech offers a supervised ‘repair at your own devices risk’ area. We are happy to be part of the community and let you use the same tools we would use to do a repair. However, if you make a mistake using a tool, Barrhaven Tech can’t be held responsible. We are happy to advise you of the right way to use a tool, but you assume responsibility for your actions and sometimes mistakes happen. The tools offered for your use are tested regularly, not maliciously tampered with and are used on our own personal and corporate equipment in a safe environment.
Passwords and login credentials
Leaving your device with us means you will have to sign a waiver (to make the lawyers happy). When you device is being repaired, you’ll have to supply some passwords to our staff in order for us to test and work on things. We understand privacy and will respect your privacy. If you wish, you may request in writing that we do our work on your device in your presence. The alternative is trusting us to do the work, and changing your password(s) when items are returned to you.
Unless otherwise directed by you, we will attempt to repair your device without sacrificing your data. Sometimes however, the issue is software related and the best fix will involve reinstall of your devices core files. This means your pictures, documents and other files would be wiped out. We urge our clients to perform regular backups and offer lots of advice on doing it for free, regularly and verifying that all is well. If you need us to back it up because the system is not readable from the user side, we have tools to help us accomplish this, however we cannot always guarantee the data and we will not be held responsible for it. On all our work, we’ll take a freshly formatted tech disk (that was knowingly wiped of all previous data, even hidden files) and image your machine to preserve the integrity of your data. After the work is done, we’ll put as much of your legible data back as we can. Apps and programs don’t always come over easily, but rest assured that the related files, pictures and documents will usually be there. If needed, we can work with you to reinstall the needed apps and programs if licenses, usernames and passwords for services are provided when you drop the device off. Otherwise, we’ll do our best to advise you how it’s done when you get your device home.
